Pack a Moving Trailer

Moving and packing is almost like Tetris, except all of the boxes are heavy and it comes with a lot of personal items that matter a lot. It can be frustrated, because no matter how expertly you pack it, those boxes won’t magically disappear into the void, they need to be moved to the proper location. Sure, you can hire movers that save you a lot of time, but the thing is, DIY is much better for you, and the method in which you do choose does depend on the time and money that you have too.

When to Rent a Truck

If you’re doing a small or local move that’s under 150 miles, and you don’t have a lot of furniture, it’s usually not bad. If you don’t have a lot of fragile items such as antiques too, then if you are moving, then you should do so. However, you may rent your own truck if the following occurs:

  • You have a larger budget and that is more important than peace of mind
  • You can drive a ruck loner distances
  • You can load and unload everything
  • Most of the times aren’t heavy or bulky
  • You’re not moving valuables

The larger movers may be expensive, but there are others that can ship some of your furniture, or even the contents of a whole home.  They may be an option if you do have a lot of items that are heavier, but you can move a chunk of this yourself.

How to Pack

So you’ve decided to DIY the whole move. How do you do it?

First, you want to distribute all of the weight evenly throughout the back of the truck. This is key since it makes it easier to load and unload it, and it also makes it easier for the person driving to control this when traveling about.

Put the heavier items on the floor that’s near the cab, and against the truck size, where they can be secured down with some moving straps as well.

Bring the Heavy furniture first

Take the heaviest items before anything else. If they’re first to the truck, they’re easier to secure, and also reduces the risk for falls and other damages, since they create the proper framework for moving.

Next, you want to position the couches, headboards, and any tables that you have on the sides.

These should be kept upright to limit the spaces between this. You can use plastic wrap and any moving blankets to properly cushion them so that they don’t get damaged.

If you’re going to also be taking rugs and such with you, then you may want to put this in between the different parts of the truck, and this moving furniture, since they are good for protection as well.

Finally, when it comes to boxes, you want to go heavy then light. This is king of obvious, but when you’re moving, the lightest boxes should be packed on top, and kept safe if they get jostled around. You should pack the heavier items first, and ten put the lither ones in last on top of the appliances and furniture. Tat way, if they do get jostled, they won’t fall around.

And of course, with all pieces, you should use moving straps to properly secure everything that’s there, since they can prevent the bigger pieces from crushing or hurting the belongings that you have. Spray them down when you load them in, going with largest and then lightest, and you’ll be much better off as well as a result.

A checklist for Packing when camping

Visiting different states in an RV and living in this can be a bit of a challenge, since you’re basically packing your entire life for a set number of days into there. You want to make sure you bring home as much as you can when you’re packing the RV, so making sure to provide a comfy experience is very important.  Packing and unpacking the RV is something you’ll be doing a lot of, and while it’s something you do eventually master, learning how to do it now before it’s too late is integral to your success.

The first time you do it will take a bit more time, but once you start to do this more, and you have a strategy that’s efficient and simple, you’ll be able to properly unpack and do what’s needed. There are a few ways for you to approach this, and we’ll go over this here.

Preparing

To make travel as smooth as possible, you want to make sure that you properly outline and practice your packing and timeline all of this right before. You want to make sure that you have a proper route, any sightseeing that’s there, food, and any delays and challenges that might be around. Make sure to refuel your tank without the fifth wheel put on, since it’s more convenient. Then, you want to make a checklist to do the packing both inside and outside, and then double-check your work so nothing is left unturned. Make sure you have your necessities packed, but it’s easy access while on the road, and you can pack these so they’re easy for you to find.

Make sure that you leave first thing in the morning to allow for adjustments, the energy of the main driver, and the like, and of course to fix any issues that may be around between locations. Make sure that you leave in the morning, get ready early on, and have confirmation of where you’re going. Make sure to research your campgrounds too before you get there.  It may not be what’s expected, but proper packing will help rectify that easy in a flash.

Packing inside your Rig

Then of course, packing in your rig is important, since there may be sudden stops, sudden road problems, and things may slide around. RVs are made to endure all of these, and of course withstand the movement, but you should make sure to use packing boxes, and of course, pack them decently tight so that stuff isn’t jostled around.

You should get rid of any unsecured hangings since it may withstand travel. If you want to keep it up, use Velcro and others. Make sure to move anything loose on the table to more cushiony areas too, and make sure to put the other loose items on there while you’re busy driving.

For any kitchen and bathroom items, you should put them in the sink, since it’s a good catch-all for pretty much anything.

Then of course keep the freestanding furniture to the front, and make sure your TV is properly secured, along with other valuables.

When packing the inside, don be afraid to use cardboard boxes to make sure everything stays where it needs to.  You should definitely pack these with the appropriate items, but also don’t be afraid to mark them as well.

Packing inside the rig is very important since it can factor into the success of traveling on the road. Luckily, you can do just that by making sure you have good boxes, and great packing done for this as well.
