Plant-based packaging is taking the world by storm, and for a good reason. With plastic making up a lot of our parts of life, an alternative is needed. But, plant-based packaging is becoming more popular, and for a good reason because about 14% of plastic is properly recycled.
Sustainable packaging is something that’ll help with the environment, but how care companies using it?
Well, read on to find out.
Get rid of Plastic
There is 9 million tons of plastic in our ocean.
Plastic is one of the most common things used worldwide, and while recycling has fixed some of it, the process does need energy and water as well that takes to recycle it. That’s because plastics are made from natural gas and oil, and most of it literally gets thrown in landfills that don’t decompose, and one water bottle will take 500 years to decompose in a place like that.
Throwaway packaging is something that is becoming a big problem as well along with plastic issues too. Plastic waste is growing even more, and customers are even saying that they’d pay more for products that offer plant-based sustainable packaging.
Companies that pay attention to this are working to make packaging that will biodegrade into better products, and also can be used 7 or more times, rather than just a singular use.
This is a type of renewable type of plastic that’s used in a lot of edible and compostable items, and it won’t hurt the environment.
Straws are a big one that a lot of companies have started to phase out as well, with Starbucks getting rid of the plastic ones. That’s because these straws aren’t’ good for the environment. But now there are seaweed-based straws that are more sustainable.
There is also MonoSol, which creates a polymer type of packaging that breaks down in the water you drink. While the materials are oftentimes used in detergent pods, the company is also using them in other types of packaging too.
Plastic is slowly being replaced as well but compostable items as well. Compost helps the soil, and will provide better options for us, especially since agriculture is ruining the ground that we stand on too.
The problem with this is that it’s still kind of a newer thing. But Walmart, Starbucks, Nestle, and even McDonalds are trying to all get rid of plastic and replace it with something more biodegradable and renewable in terms of packaging.
The research shows that this can pay off, and a lot of customers are curious about this, since plant-based food and beverage packaging is something that people are becoming more aware of.
With a lot of companies still using plastic though, it’s definitely important for you to start looking past the plastic barrier, and of course to other options.
That’s why, when it comes to packaging, you want the sustainable alternatives.
They’re simple, they offer the best in terms of saving the planet, and although there isn’t a ton that you can do, being able to at least admit that you can do your part is a big part of this. A lot of people do benefit from sustainable options, and in a lot of cases, there is always a lot of good things that come from this.
Hopefully, we’ll see a change in our planet, but if everyone does their part, and the bigger companies start to phase out plastic like amazon and the like, we may see a change in the state of our planet, and of course, and we hope for the best.
